Julia George

Julia George, LA's Best Kept Secret

"The folding chair story"

Here, unedited is "the folding chair story," one a friend of mine likes to report he's told, maybe three or four times in a month. It feels good to know I've had such an effect on people, if only a small number... God willing that number will grow... if you haven't run into my friend yet and heard this in person, here is the famed story unedited... :)

"Pssst ... you don't know me. I was just one of many over the years who caught Julia George in venues like acting classes, auditions, at her actor's day gig. She, charming everyone around the water cooler, showing up with her flute at the office Christmas party and making ALL those J*E*A*L*O*U*S other females mad-as-hell ("she's TALENTed as WELL AS gorgeous...").

And we had the privilege to see her perform in an acting class we'll never forget.

Our class was given a 30-second commercial for H&R Block, the tax preparer. Talk about BORing subjects. BUT ... Julia George took that copy like DeNiro drove a taxi, Brando ran a mob family, Elizabeth Taylor wooed Richard Burton.

Sitting in a wobbly, metal folding chair on a bare stage, she scrunched her foot up, held and contemplated her toe nails, and did SOMEthing with those 30 seconds about "Sound Financial Management" that might as well have been Mamet, Sam Shepherd, even Shakespeare. Thirty seconds. Of what makes acting indescribably precious, valuable, and damned hard to render well. You know--like Julia George renders all the time.

Look for her on the world's movie screens near you.

But don't expect a boring tax commercial.

Do expect a totally beautiful actor working magic.
